Devices & Setup

How do I set up my device?

Plug it in, mount it, open the app, and set your thresholds. Setup is self-install, so you don’t need a technician. For the Arvana Pro, the steps are:

  1. Power on. Slide the switch on the bottom of the device to ON. The front light flashes white while it searches for a cellular connection and turns solid white once connected. This can take up to 3 minutes.
  2. Connect the probe. Push the probe fully into the probe port on the bottom of the device.
  3. Create your account. Download the Arvana app and follow the on-screen instructions.
  4. Add your device. In the app, tap Add Device, enter the Device ID on the back of the device, then set your temperature and humidity thresholds and alert notifications.

For a full walkthrough, see the Initial Setup tutorial below.

What is the difference between Arvana Pro and Arvana Pro+?

Arvana Pro monitors ambient temperature and humidity with a long-lasting battery. Arvana Pro+ adds external probes for monitoring inside refrigerators and freezers.

Does Arvana Lite also monitor temperature and humidity?

Yes. In addition to power outage monitoring, Arvana Lite continuously monitors temperature and humidity and can alert you when conditions move outside the ranges you've set.

Can I use Arvana Lite in a refrigerator or freezer?

For monitoring temperature from inside refrigerators and freezers, Arvana Pro+ is the better choice. It supports one or two external temperature probes designed for refrigeration monitoring.

Do I need a SIM card or a separate data plan?

No. The cellular connection is built in and service is included.

What if there’s no cell signal where I’m installing it?

Arvana needs some cellular coverage to work, so it won’t work with zero signal. It has handled spotty coverage well, but we recommend checking coverage before you buy or install. Check the AT&T coverage map and the T-Mobile coverage map for your address.

Reception is usually better on higher floors than in basements. After you place the device, you can run a network test to confirm it can connect.

Which cellular networks does Arvana use?

The Arvana Pro uses 4G LTE Cat 1 and is compatible with AT&T, T-Mobile and Cellular One.

How long does the battery last in an outage?

The Arvana Lite lasts 72 hours on battery. The Arvana Pro and Pro+ last up to 60 days in Default Mode and up to 18 months in Battery Saver Mode.

What temperature and humidity range does it measure?

The Arvana Lite measures -4°F to 140°F and 0–95% humidity (non-condensing). The Pro+ probe measures -40°F to 158°F.

How often does it report?

The Arvana Lite updates every 10 minutes. The Arvana Pro and Pro+ updates every 10 minutes by default and on battery save mode every 60 minutes

How do I place the probe in a fridge or freezer?

Keep the main unit outside the appliance and route the probe inside, placed where you want to measure. The probe wire is 2 meters long, and the cable can pass through the door gasket without breaking the seal.

Can I put the main unit inside a fridge or freezer?

The main unit is designed to stay outside the appliance, which is why the Pro+ probe is 2 meters long. It can sit on a metal appliance, but not inside it.

Can I use Arvana in an ultra-low freezer?

No. The Pro+ probe only measures down to -40°F, which does not cover ultra-low freezers.

How many probes does the Pro+ support?

Up to 2 probes.

Where should I mount my Arvana?

Choose a spot with cellular signal, away from direct sunlight and heat sources, and near an outlet. Keep the air vents on the back of the device clear so air can flow. You can place the device on a metal appliance, but not inside it. After you first power it on or move it, allow up to 30 minutes for the sensors to adjust and give accurate readings.

To mount it, remove the paper backing from the self-adhesive tape on the back of the wall mount and press it firmly to the wall. Then slide the device onto the two mounting pegs on the front of the mount.

Can I monitor a walk-in cooler or walk-in freezer?

Yes, with the Pro+ and its probe.

Can I use Arvana outdoors, in a garage, or in a barn?

Arvana operates from -4°F to 140°F and 0–95% relative humidity. For outdoor or damp locations, contact support before installing.

Is Arvana powered by an outlet or by battery?

It plugs in for power, and the built-in battery keeps it running during an outage. The Arvana Pro charges over USB-C and runs in Default Mode whenever it is plugged in.

Can I move my device to a new location?

Yes. After moving it, run a network test to confirm it can connect, then allow up to 30 minutes for the sensors to adjust.

What is Battery Saver Mode, and how do I turn it on?

Battery Saver Mode extends battery life to over 18 months. The device connects to the network less often to send readings, but if a reading falls outside your alert thresholds, it connects immediately to send an alert. Turn it on in Device Settings in the app. When the device is plugged in, it runs in Default Mode regardless of this setting.

I changed a setting in Battery Saver Mode. Why hasn’t it applied yet?

In Battery Saver Mode, settings changes (such as alert thresholds, or turning Battery Saver Mode off) apply the next time the device syncs. To apply them right away, run a network test. It syncs all pending updates during that connection.

How do I run a network test?

Triple-click the button on the side of the device. The front light flashes white while it searches and turns solid white once connected. If the device is unplugged, the light stays on for one minute. We recommend running a test whenever you move the device to a new location.

How do I charge the device, and how should I store it?

Plug a USB-C cable into the port on the device. A full charge from 0% takes about 3 hours. If you’re storing the device, charge it once every 3 months to keep the battery healthy.

Lights & Battery

What do the lights on my Arvana Pro mean?

The Arvana Pro has a signal light on the front and four battery lights. The front signal light shows your connection status:

Why is the front light off?

When the device runs on battery, the front light is off by default to save power. It only blinks when it sends data. To see the status light, triple-click the test button. If the device is unplugged, the light stays on for one minute.

Why is my signal light red?

A solid red light means the device could not connect to the network. Turn the device off, wait two minutes, then turn it back on. If the light stays red, move the device to a different location and restart it. Higher floors usually have better reception than basements.

What does a yellow signal light mean?

Solid yellow means the device is connected, but the signal is weak. If you want a stronger signal, try a different spot, such as a higher floor, and run a network test.

What do the four battery lights on the side of the device mean?

When the device is plugged in, the four battery lights work as a progress bar:

How can I tell if my device is charging?

A blinking battery light means it is charging. The blinking light shows the current range. For example, two solid lights with the third blinking means it is charging and currently between 51–75%.

How do I check the battery level when the device is unplugged?

The battery lights stay off when the device is unplugged, to save power. Press the test button once, and the lights briefly show the current battery level.

What does the low battery warning look like?

A single red battery light means the battery is critically low (15%). Plug the device in right away.

What does the test button do?

Press it once to briefly show the battery level. Triple-click it to run a network test and show the signal status on the front light.

Alerts & App

How many people can receive alerts?

You can send alerts to up to five contacts by text, call, or email.

Give your team access to the information they need to respond.
Will I still get an alert if the power and Wi-Fi go down?

Yes. A plugged-in Arvana keeps running on its backup battery for up to 72 hours during an outage, and its built-in cellular connection means alerts still go out even if your Wi-Fi goes down with the power.

What alerts will I get?

High temperature, low temperature, freeze, high and low humidity, and power lost and restored.

Can I set my own thresholds?

Yes. You set the limits that matter for your space.

Can I manage multiple devices or locations from one account?

Yes. You can manage an unlimited number of devices in one account.

How long is my data stored, and can I export it?

Your data is stored for one year. You can download it as a CSV on the Arvana Lite, Pro and Pro+.

Can I add teammates or limit what they see?

Yes. Once a teammate is added to your team, you can set them as view-only or admin.

What is a “restored” alert?

A restored alert is sent when the temperature or humidity returns 3° into the safe range after a high or low alert.

How will I be notified?

Arvana sends alerts by push notification, text message and email.

Can I get alerts by text message or email?

Yes, both.

Is there a mobile app and a web dashboard?

Yes. Arvana is available on iOS, Android and the web.

Can I see temperature history as a graph?

Yes. Your historical data is available in the app. To learn how to create and run reports, see the Running Reports tutorial.

Can I see device battery and signal strength in the app?

Yes. In the web app, hover over the Battery and Signal icon.

How do timestamps handle time zones and daylight saving time?

When clocks change, you may see a one-hour gap in spring or a repeated hour in fall in your timestamps. This is expected, and your data has not been lost or duplicated. Alerts keep working normally through the change.

Troubleshooting & Support

My device shows offline. What should I do?

Check the front signal light. If it is solid red, turn the device off, wait two minutes, and turn it back on. If it stays red, move it to a different location and restart it. Higher floors usually have better reception than basements. If the device is on battery, triple-click the test button to see the light.

What do the lights on my device mean?

See the Lights & Battery section above.

I’m not getting alerts. What should I check?

You may not have received a high or low alert because a restored alert has not been sent since the last one. A restored alert is sent when the reading returns 3° into the safe range. Updating the alert thresholds in the app resets the alert.

What happens when the battery is low?

A single red battery light means the battery is critically low (15%). Plug the device in right away. The battery is rechargeable and charges over USB-C.

Where do I find my device ID?

The Device ID is on the back of the device.

Readings look wrong. What could cause that?

After you first power the device on or move it, allow up to 30 minutes for the sensors to adjust. Keep it out of direct sunlight and away from heat sources and vents, and keep the air vents on the back clear.

Why is my probe reading different from the unit’s temperature reading?

A difference of up to 2°F is normal, especially if the unit and the probe are in different places. The probe is more exposed to the environment, so it responds to temperature changes faster.

Why are the refrigerator and probe readings different?

The probe may not be near the refrigerator’s built-in sensor. Temperatures vary inside a fridge, and spots closer to the cooling source are usually colder.

Why is the app not showing the probe reading?

The probe may be loose or damaged. Make sure it is pushed fully into the probe port. If readings still don’t appear, contact customer service for a replacement probe.

Business & Compliance

Are your sensors calibrated?

All devices are tested for accuracy at the factory. If you need a traceable certificate, contact support. Traceable certificates are available for an extra charge. For the Arvana Pro, temperature accuracy is ±0.5°F typical (±2°F max), humidity accuracy is ±2% typical (±5% max), and probe accuracy is ±0.9°F typical (±3.6°F max).

Do you have an API or integrations?

We’re currently developing an API and integrations.

Can I create reports for audits or inspections?
